  Overview
When the program started Clipper was the only variety cultivated, and cultivated very successfully, in the Southern Cape.

Seven varieties have since been released from our breeding program - SabbiErica and SabbiNemesia being the latest at the beginning of 2009. Three varieties, SSG 525 (2003), SSG 532 (2004) and SSG 506 (2008), has already been phased out for various reasons. So, four local varieties, plus Clipper, are cultivated this season. Three experimental varieties (S5, S6 and S7) will be evaluated this year. S9 was added to this list at the beginning of 2009 and seed will be multiplied this season. The first variety from our program accepted for the irrigation area was SSG 585 in 2006.
